Silas Renn: Ignore the body. Ignore that he doesn’t have a dimir-style ability like unblockable or fear. Silas Renn, Seeker Adept is all about the graveyard and his dimir colors.
When I see Silas I think artifact combos. Someone destroy your Rings of Brighthearth? Silas can get it back for you. Because EDH is usually a multiplayer format it isn’t terribly difficult to have an open opponent to swing out into.
Getting back artifacts that were destroyed is just the first layer of value. Discard effects such as wheel of fortune and Daretti, Scrap Savant are the tip of the iceberg of a long list of graveyard enablers that also let you cantrip. You can tone down the CMC to cast efficient spells like Faithless Looting, Careful Study and Cathartic Reunion to cycle through your deck using Silas to pick up the scraps. If you wanted to go for large scale mill effects stuff like Traumatize and Tunnel Vision could be a good start.
Possible Partner Suggestions:
I have a hard time not being generic with my thoughts for partners with Silas. I think most of the commanders you splash him with will be for colors and what other utility spells you can get with the added colors.
If your using Silas as the secondary commander for a deck I think you’re just having him sub in for artifact recursion (see: equipment decks).
If I had to recommend a specific commander to pair up with Silas I would say go with Tymna. She’s good at enabling card draw with your utility creatures and her white gives you an almost complete tool kit for messing with artifacts. Look at our review of Tymna here.
While I don’t think Akiri makes a lot of sense for a artifact combo deck, she does add the combo of red and white to your deck so you get complete control over how you want to manipulate your artifacts. Perhaps there’s a strange mix you could build where you compile equipment that draws/cantrips you cards and artifact combo cards? That might be good.
